Removable tow hitch..............doesn't!

Can anyone help?

I Have a Bonsal removable tow hitch fitted and previously had no problems removing it.

After the last trip (a couple of weeks ago)I tried to unlock the tow hitch but the mechanism was jammed and the latch would not turn to unlock.

Has anyone got experience of this happening? Is there any maintenance (lube etc) that I can do to prevent it happening.....that is if I can get the &^$^^%$£ thing off?

Any help is appreciated

I had real problems getting my witter one to detach last year. I'd left it in place for about 6 weeks & used the car to launch a boat from a sandy beach in that time. After a lot of coaxing it did detach & I found the mechansism to have some grains of sand in it. A good blast with an airline sorted mine but now when I go on the beach I make sure I take the towbar off the same day.
