Removing decals

Has anyone experience of removing "decorative" decals from the outside walls of caravans ?

I think our van would look better without them, but obviously need to remove without damage to the van side and finish.

Use a hairdryer to soften the glue and peel of gently. Remove any remaining glue with WD40 on a rag.

Wash the van when finished to clean off the WD40

Ive done exactly waht Steve has suggested and it worked a treat. It was on a van which was 15 years old and I wanted to change the faded decals.

In the past I,ve found that boiling water straight from the kettle does the job then just a gentle rub with white spirit to remove the remainder of the glue.............

Does anyone know how to keep the damn things stuck on in the first place?
