Removing old roof light

Hi,

One of my rooflights is broken and needs replacing on 15 year old Swift. I have tried to push it out but it is stuck hard. What is the best way to break the seal with the non setting mastic/sealant? I am thinking of carefuly sliding a thin metal scrapper into the mastic as I am concerned that if I just push hard I may damage the caravan skin.

Also what is the best way of removing the old mastic/sealant from the caravan so that I dont scratch etc the surrounding area as I also need to replace one fridge vent.

I already have non setting sealant (IDL99) to fit new roof light etc.

Thanks

Richie

I exchanged a roof light for a mini Heki on a previous caravan and I levered the old roof light off by carefully sliding a thin long knife in to break the seal.

I removed the old mastic with a rigid plastic ice scraper, white spirit and a rag.

Thanks Parksy, shall give it a go

Hi Richard

We have a swift 14 years old and have changed our roof lights.

Notice this is the royal we !!!

Hubby can tell you how to do it but he's not home yet.

I'll get him to type what he did.

Try starting the break on the seal to creat a 'start' with a knife and then using some 5 amp electrical wire cut it like a piece of cheese.
