Removing posts

Well done moderator for removing some of the recent posts, but it does all seem a little "George Orwell" at the moment. Is there no other way of sorting the wheat from the chaff?

The 4x4 thread pruning was a drastic measure to clear a lot of unsuitable material. Sorry if some wheat was lost with the enormous amount of chaff.

Sorry can't agree with that Del. I'm as broadminded as most, but some of the postings were getting much too near the knuckle for a public debate. Some of the comments were also getting much too personal, bordering on abusive & definitely inflamatory. I applaud the Moderator for the action taken. Please keep it up. (Oh dear, I can already guess what the puerile will do with that statement!!!)

Whether it is pro or anti has nothing to do with it. The moderator has explained the reasons for the removal and that is good enough for me. I have no idea if they were for or anti in what was a futile thread. I have complete confidence in the moderator, and even if I didn't, I wouldn't presume to tell them their duties, when they are providing a valuable resource to caravanners at not cost to the users.

Postings should only be removed if they are insulting to another person, other than that I see no reason to remove postings just because someone is expressing a view that is not the "norm" doesn't mean it should be removed.

I hope you are reading this mr Mod, and I promise not to call you a fascist dictator again as that can be read as insulting ............ so long as you exercise restraint in removing postings that do not insult others ie stop listening to the few, nay very few complaints about the postings.

What I find amazing is that people who are getting a valuable service for nothing have the cheek to tell the moderator how to run the forum. If the moderator was indeed called a fascist dictator I believe they have shown remarkable restraint.

Ray - I agree with a lot of what you say but I think you need to understand two things - first, what is meant by a Forum (both literaly and in thgis context and secondly this Forum is provided as a service by a commercial venture - PC magazine.

It provides valuable feedback to the mag as well as a service to us the users.

Please do not think this Forum is there for purely altruistic reasons. It is a marketing tool pure and simple. Extemely useful to myself and others but there is no such thing as a free lunch.

I would never remove a message bacause I disagreed with an opinion! As long as it wasn't racist, abusive, etc.

I see no reason to question removal of doubtful material. Another well used website removes postings that the moderator doesn't like.Try to mention Practical Caravan and it won't last long before its removed !!!

One man's meat and all that.

I had to remove some posts yesterday and boy what a job that was, secured in by about a ton of concrete at the base of each fence post and there was 6 of them, could hardly lift them to take down to our local dump. Now that is what I call dificult posts to remove. Anyway I digrese its poring down with rain today and cant get out to finish the job. Oh for the joys of an English summer.
