Renault Megane Coupe Cabriolet -Has ANYONE towed with these cars-please?

Hello again,

I`m becoming very concerned now that we have a very much loved Megane coupe(see above)-but it has a very low towing ability.
I have also never seen one towing a caravan at all!!!!! and No one at all has responded to my last post .

Its happily towed our trailer and tent but were to old now for that and I desperately want a caravan!
PLEASE has ANYONE ever towed a van with one?????

Hello Cecelia,

As you are probably aware, there are several different versions of the Megane, and each variant will have different towing characteristics.

It would help if we know exactly which model you have, Year, fuel Engine size/power, gearbox and trim level.

From a quick search the cabriolet has been available with many different engine options so we do need more information.

One particular point to watch with Renault, they are pretty mean with their towing limits. Renault often have a gross train weight that is less than the sum of the GVW + MTPLM, which means you cannot have more than the driver in the car if you want to pull the maximum weight of trailer.

Most manufacturers quote their towing limit where the sum of the cars GVW and the trailers MTPLM add upto the the cars Gross train weight.

In addition to the above data you also need to know the maximum permissible gross train weight and gross vehicle weight. It is possible (and in the case of Renault fairly likely) that gross train weight minus gross vehicle weight is less than the towing weight of 1200kg, so that, in practice, you will be able to tow less than the 1200kg if the car is anything like fully laden.
