Replacement Caravan Table

We love our Geist caravan but find the table for the front dinette is too small at 91 cm x 55 cm for our family of 5. We could send the kids down to the bottom end to use the second dinette but we really like to eat our main meal as a family. We bought a larger camping table but have found it a bit wobbly, the legs get in the way and, to be honest, it spoils the look of the caravan. We've looked on eBay but can't find anything suitable. Ideally we'd like something around 65cm x 130cm with trestle type legs rather than legs on the 4 corners and can't find a supplier of proper caravan tables this size.

We've thought about buying a pair of folding caravan table legs and making our own table using furniture board but the thickest we can find is 18mm and we're concerned that we won't be able to use long enough screws. Considering using screws and 'no more nails' to make more secure and the legs we've seen have a fixing plate with 6 screw holes so should be quite solid. What do you think?

We're not overly concerned about the weight of the new table as we'd leave the proper one at home and, being German, it is solidly built and really heavy.

Any thoughts/advice/ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers

Have you tried some of the caravan breakers. Many EU vans have large tables that fold down on a very strong steel frame. I accept they are not light but they are very strong. The problem may be getting a match on the table top.

Does your van have a small pull out ( fold over tabele) if so use the 2 together . In our Delta if there are more than the 2 of us that is what we do gives a table large enough for 6

Thanks for replies so far.

We have u-shaped seating at the front of the van so don't have the little flap-over table that some have.

We've done a small modification to the caravan this afternoon and added a small lift off extension table type thing at the side of the kitchen. Not made a bad job of it even if we say so ourselves and it's put us in the mood for more DIY so think we might go with our original idea and see how it works. We can always sell the legs on eBay if it's not successful!

Thanks again
