Hi all, just a word of caution I had a new mattress made for my fixed bed in my caravan by a Birmingham company who were at last years caravan and boat show at NEC sprung with a memory foam top. Very nice however very heavy so now I have to replace the bed again because the company made a mattress far too heavy I have since found out that the mattress weight should have only been 14kg So if your thinking of replacing contact your manufactorer for the weight

My other half is about to attempt to adapt a silent night double bed mattress to fit our fixed bed. Our current mattress is still fine but as we have used it full time for 2 1/2 years, it has had a lot of use by normal touring standards. She is a very competent seemstress and is well capable of re-manufacturing the mattress to create the tapered corner shape.

But , after reading your thread, we will weigh both mattresses to check that they weigh simularly.
