Replacing steadies.

Thought all you techies out there could do with a new question! The steadies on the old girl look rather rusty so thought I might treat her to some new ones. What's the best option? New or from a breakers yard? Also, are they going to be bolted on or soldered? She could probably do with a new jockey wheel unit too, any recommendations?

Change her for a male model less problems...LOL

Seriously....I would replace the steadies with new ones and they should be bolted on to the chassis.

I only thought of a breakers yard because of getting ones that would fit her. I don't suppose the new ones all have the same bolt holes for fixing, do they? I can hear the laughter from here, surely that would make life far too easy!

What caravan have you got, what year, and do you know if it's on an alko Chassis.

How would I know if it's an ALKO chassis - I doubt it though - were they around in the dark ages?

It's a lunar clubman and I think it's about 1979 -81 ish.

Lunar tend to make their own chassis,best bet is go to a Lunar dealer and ask the question or if in the Midlands try Jacksons of Old Arley.

Lunar now use alko chassis, but like The Plotter says on a van that age lunar used to make their own chassis, what I would do is contact the Lunar owners club at: www.lunarownersclub.net and see if they can help in any way.

Failing that if you can take one corner steady off the van and take it to your nearest caravan accesory shop, they may be able to match it up or order them in for you.

Thanks. Have tried the website but it's under reconstruction and not all the links etc work so will try again later. I'll try to get one of the legs off tomorrow - if you hear some swearing in Norwich - that'll be me armed with a spanner!
