Only last week, my step-daughter and her husband bought a 1960 Cheltenham, which they will tow behind an old Pontiac (when it's restored). It's good to see old vans about (properly maintained of course).

Single glazing - poor insulation - poor heating - non casette toilet - no shower - tiny basic fridges - pump it yourself water, very basic cooker.
Retro looks ok. Waking to dripping windows and cold caravanning compared to todays caravans. No thanks.

Not for me either, been there, done that and exchanged the tee shirt for a larger size but many younger caravanners who are interested in the retro look snap these older models up when they are for sale on E-bay.
It would be marginally better than a tent which is what many of the festival goers were sleeping in and some of the older caravans that I saw had obviously had some time and money spent on them.

Lots of these retro outfits can be seen at the annual European Classic Caravan Rally, but sadly, the British entries have declined over the last couple of years. We've been to the last four, in Belgium, France, Sweden and Holland. Guarranteed a very warm welcome, and a fun weekend. Even better when, as we do, you can combeine it with a Euro-jaunt for a few weeks. These rallies also tend to be held in non-tourist areas, so you get to see much more interesting parts of Europe.
