reversing lights 13 pin connector

just converted my ssangyong rexton 7 pin sockets to 13 pin as described in practical caravan awards special . everything works fine except the reversing lights on swift 550 are on permanent even when not in reverse . Any help would be appreciated

Thanks Sprocket for reply & wiring diagram , but checked all the wires today as the diagram in practical caravan which is the same as yours but the wire colours are different ,i have no pink wire it is yellow in no 8 . Everything works fine except the reversing lights are still constantly on .any other suggestion.

OK, do you have a multimeter or a 12 volt test light? Because you're going to need one if you are to find this yourself.

Right, test pin 8 on the CAR socket with a meter (or light). Is it permanently live? It should go on and off with the car's reversing lights.

IF NO - fault probably lies in caravan wiring. Short or damaged cables.

IF YES - fault definitely lies in the car wiring. Probably wired in to the wrong cable in the back of the car.

This is the first thing to establish. Let us know.

How have you made your connection to the van ? ( i did not see the artical in the mag )

Thanks Dom it sounds like it is the car that is the problem as i only bought it in December & it already had a towbar fitted .The engineer at Broad Lane Caravans told us that reversing lights are not a legal requirment ,but we are taking it on maiden voyage tomorrow & havnt the time to sort it so taken bulbs out of caravan . I will try next week & let you know

Hi Sproket in the mag it showed with pics how to convert your car to 13 pin ,both the 12n & 12s cables on my car have the same colour internal wires eg yellow,blue,white,green,brown,red,black.

So the 12s reverse lamp wire is yellow no8 pin but it seems to be permenant live so have to sort it next week

Mark, if you bought from BLC I am guessing you're somewhere in the midlands. If so, when you have an hour you're welcome to come over and I'll take a look at it for you. I'm 1 mile from Junction 11 of the M42.
