Reversing with a caravan

I understand the principles of how to get where you want to go in reverse but how do you get around not being able to see what (or who) may be directly behind the caravan. Do people put reversing cameras on their caravans?

We had to negotiate passing traffic in a fairly narrow lane (shipping lenghth 40 ft ish) on our last outing, the first thing Aj said was- I can't reverse some one could be right behind me! We were too close to the side for me to get out and give directions. Eventually the oncoming traffic sorted itself out and we all went on our way! I cant see that learning to reverse is that useful.

I can when hubby isn't htere to help, while I'm swanning off to France. Some pitches can be a bit difficult and I'm not that strong to push a van by myself..

NEVER reverse unless you can see behind you, or unless you have somebody outside the van to watch for you. Many a toddler has been run over in reversing situations, some fatally.

It can be very difficult to reverse when you're effectively in the passenger seat and unable to get out, but in a situation like this, I would have got out of the car (as the driver), and checked behind me, and even made sure that any car behind me was aware of my intention to reverse.

If possible, do nothing. Let the oncoming traffic give way.

I'm not that strong either smiley! But we have a motor mover fitted which is good for reversing onto pitch, and positioning on ramps etc.
