The French government is lowering speed limits on all two-lane highways from 90 kilometres an hour (56mph) to 80kmh (50mph) after an alarming rise in road deaths in the last three years.
The limit reduction, which will be introduced from 1st July 2018.
New French speed limits from 1 July
Motorway 130kph (110kph in wet weather) 80mph (68mph in wet weather
Dual Carriageway (Magor Roads) 110kph (100kph in wet weather) 68mph (62mph in wet weater)
Twolane roads outside builtup areas 80kph (70kph in wet weather) 50mph (43mph in wet weather)
Builtup areas (towns and villages) 50kph (31mph) 30kph (20mph) where signed
