Revised French speed limits

Just read this on another forum .

The French government is lowering speed limits on all two-lane highways from 90 kilometres an hour (56mph) to 80kmh (50mph) after an alarming rise in road deaths in the last three years.
The limit reduction, which will be introduced from 1st July 2018.

New French speed limits from 1 July
Motorway 130kph (110kph in wet weather) 80mph (68mph in wet weather
Dual Carriageway (Magor Roads) 110kph (100kph in wet weather) 68mph (62mph in wet weater)
Twolane roads outside builtup areas 80kph (70kph in wet weather) 50mph (43mph in wet weather)
Builtup areas (towns and villages) 50kph (31mph) 30kph (20mph) where signed

Not really much impact if you are towing and the car and caravan combined plated mass exceeds 3.5 tonne. Bit more impact on solo cars, or outfits plated under 3.5 tonnes.

True and I dont think many of the Germans will stick to it, not many people adhere to the 90
Kph speed limit if train weight is over 3.5 kg. Even when below.

Clive, I think you will find that it is the vehicles GTW that counts so even if the combined weights are less than 3,500 the lower speed limit applies if the GTW is over 3,500. Not sure how the can tell if you are over 3,500 in many cases without stopping you though, as many cars have variations either side of this figure depending on the exact spec of the car.

3.5kg! my grand daughters tricycle weighs more than that ! :side:

But the more serious point I need to make is that as with any law it should be obeyed and just becasue others choose to ignore a speed limit it en-mass it does not make it right for anyone else to break it.
