Hi,

A month ago I posted a request for information on Rhyno Movers and there has been no response to date! Does anyone have a Rhyno mover, especially fitted to a twin axle? What are they like? Do they do the job? Any problems? What are he company like to deal with?

I have just had a Powrtouch system removed from my van due to constant failures and I am interested in the Rhyno system. I have recently modified the access to the side of the house & can now reverse the van into position so my dependence on the mover is not so great - just want one now to make life easier.

Geoff,

I am about to invest in a Powrtouch mover the TA model 4, though I'm a bit concerned that you have had problems, most posts I have read on various forums give excellent reviews.

Hi Geoff, We had a Rhyno Mover fitted to our van [single axle] and we use the 85 amp caravan battery, touch wood it been great! if you are having one fitted and your van over 1350kgs then a 110amp will be better,The fitter we had he was very good and very tidy in this work while fitting the unit and show us how thing works, The company is a one man business he make all the part for the motor mover and put them togetter, The company hire fitter to fit your unit at home, But do make sure that you want the unit fitted in morning or afternoon, as we plan to have our fitted in the afternoon, he turn up in the morning, so it was a long day for the fitter as he left home at 7am did't get home till 9pm, other than that we are very please with our and made our life a lot better, Good Luck Trevor

Hi Nick

During the 18 months that the Powrtouch was fitted to my twin axle Lunar Lexon it failed 7 times. I had 4 new electronics boxes, a new motor, a complete re-wire and a free upgrade to a 4 wheel drive system and it still would not work consistently! There is nothing worse than getting home from a weekend away and the caravan mover wont work - that last time I just could not get it to switch on. Apparently the Powrtouch components are made in China and they are having problems at the moment. A couple of weeks ago I had the system completely removed by Powrtouch free of charge and they have given me a 100% cash refund. Cant fault Powrtouch service but I didn't pay for service I wanted a mover that worked. I must have had a 'Friday afternoon' one. Cant imagine how much this 1 system has cost Powrtouch! On the plus side, when it did work it worked OK, especially the 4 wheel drive system.

Thanks Trevor

I have taken the plunge and ordered a Rhyno. Speaking to the MD Simon Cooper he says that he can 'tune' the unit to our requirements, will actually test the unit by getting the van out and back into the drive and he wont take any payment until we are totally happy with the installation. Powrtouch in all their visits never moved the van with the mover just tested it in situ. We already have a 110Ah battery fitted to the van and carry a 85Ah back-up. The 110Ah worked fine with the Powrtouch.

Hi Geoff

We were interested in the Rhyno mover, but at the time it did not come with a cross actuation bar, which we need as our caravan is stored close to our house wall, and I did not fancy leaving the mover in contact with the wheels when stored, as suggested by Rhyno.

We bought the Powertouch with the cross actuation bar, and the price was the same as the Rhyno, no problems so far with the Powertouch in 18 months use. Hope the Rhyno proves OK for you, like you say with a twin axle you just need the mover to work, whatever the make.

The Rhyno was fitted yesterday. Took the fitter 3 hours but he did a very good job. He tested the unit fully and got the van off the drive and back into place as we would do when going away. He gave us many useful tips and was generally very helpful. He suggested that the previous installation of the Powrtouch electonics box and aerial was in the wrong place. He suggested that they were too close to the caravan chassis and the battery and both could cause interference with the operation of the system. The Powrtouch electronic units were fitted directly above the chassis and directly behind the battery and the aerial ran down by the side of the chassis. He has installed the Rhyno electonics & aerial well away from both chassis & battery. Initial observation of the Rhyno is that the buttons on the remote control are a bit close together and a bit fiddly - easy to press more than one button by accident. Using the van this weekend to have more info next week.

Hi Geof

Have had Rhyno mover fitted to my pageant burghandy in october this year. Have found it to be a great tool, unfortunatly last time out left remote on top of spare wheel while hitching up and drove off. After phoning Rhyno they said they would supply another for 35 quid and come out and retune it.They are really nice people to deal with and supply a quality product at competetive prices.

Rhyno update. Used the mover 4 times now all 'on location' and all instances where I needed to turn the van 90 degrees into and out of a pitch. First reactions are that it is fine in a straight line but when I tried to turn the van through 90 degrees the unit which has to do the most work (on the outer wheel) slipped on the tyre and would turn the van. I had to assist it manually by pulling on the hitch. Having said that the tyres were very wet. I noticed that the rollers are a much smaller diameter than the Powrtouch (previously removed)and maybe driving the combination of the smaller wheels fitted to the Lunar Lexon, was too much for it. Having spoken to Rhyno they are going to re-fit some larger diameter rollers when they return after Xmas - no quibble. Question - Why not fit larger rollers in the first place?

Rhyno did give me a tip which did improve the turning ability of the system. Keep alternating between turn, forwards, turn, forwards which relieves the stress on the tyres and seems to make the unit respond better overall - less slip and better turning. Keep you posted of further develoments.

Don't know how the Rhyno contol looks, but powrtouch has buttons such that you can drive one wheel one way and the other the other so that the van will turn on a right angle in its won length. The instructions (an old model) did not say this exactly, but I happened to pitch next to a Powrtouch fitter who put me right.

Hi Ray

I think that the Rhyno works on the same principle. The problem was that there was not enough grip between the roller and the surface of the tyre when trying to turn ie:- when one roller was doing the majority of the work it kept slipping on the surface of the tyre. Perfectly OK in a straight line when both rollers were driving both tyres and the load was shared between them.
