River Beamish CC Site

We are going to the River Beamish CC Site in mid May and would like some ideas from anyone who has visited previously. Any good pubs locally? Any worthwhile/not worthwhile places to visit? Dog friendly places of interest? Many thanks in advance.

We stayed at this site in May last year and thought it was beautiful. Pitches were bigger than usual club sites and once on your pitch you could chose which way round to set up with none of the compulsary 'car park' style pitching which makes many sites seem small than they are. We had supper at the pub in Eglingham one evening with a group of walking friends and the food was great with choices for everyone and not the something and chips you often get. The forest centre place is worth a visit with lots on the history and geography of the area. It can get a bit windy on site though so take your storm straps just in case.

Just back from River Breamish yesterday and looking to book up again as soon as we find out what the rest of the family are doing. The Plough at Powburn has a basic menu and is child and, I think, dog friendly too. The Mace store attached to the garage nearby has a surprisingly varied stock - the butchers/food shop next door is worth visiting as is the farm shop at Roseden, about three miles towards Wooler. Discovered a mouse had made it's home in a cardboard box containing the barbecue stand which had been under the 'van. Imagine the chaos if it only made it's presence known in the car once we were on the road or worse if I had put the box straight into the 'van then into storage.

Just got back today from River Breamish and can agree it`s an excellent site.

Oodles of walks, good beaches within half an hour, Cragside is definately worth a visit, if you`re feeling energetic theres lots of info in the on-site information room on coastal and hill walks.
