Riverside Caravan Site, Betws-y-coed, Wales

Has anyone stayed on this CC site, noting from the website it has recently undergone a major refurb, any comments please. We have 2 teenage kids so looking for a site that has something to do nearby! Looking at one week here and 1 week at Chester Fairoaks (kids need wi-fi can't go 2 weeks without)!

Thanks in anticipation.

Hi Graeme

Walking in the mountains but not really alot in the little village.

Snowden not that far away and the Llanberis pass takes you to the Snowden Railway and the slate museums, for this you would need to travel by car.

Llandudno and Conway very nice but would be another car journey.

Not sure about Wifi because you lose mobile signals in that area.

Hope this helps, I travel this way with work, if I can help anymore please let me know.

Hi Allyson,

Thanks for that, for us it is a long journey (live in Aberdeenshire) and having had a total disaster last year (stayed 1 night in a horrible site at Robin Hoods Bay) want to avoid a repeat! Google Earth is a wonderful aid but it is no substitute for local knowledge! Having to travel for the attractions is no major problem as long as we can come back to a nice, clean and quiet site in an evening. I don't mind if no toilets as long as I have 240 hook up, so any suggestions along these lines will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Graeme

There is a lovely site along the A55 your side of Colwyn Bay and one, and another one is just outside Conway on A55.

Look in March 2009 Practical caravan for further info on the area, pages 10-15, for photos, sites and places to visit.

Hi Graeme,

Firstly I must say I have never actually stayed on this site, however we have visited the area on a few occasions and it is a nice place ideal for walking and pretty central for other tourist attractions in the area.

The site you ask about is affiliated to the Caravan Club and owned by Morris leisure who run 2 other touring sites, stanmore hall near Bridgenorth and Oxon hall near sherwesbury.

We have stayed at both the above sites and they are very well run, with strict rules which must be followed, we are also considering a visit to Riverside, if it is as well run as the others it will be a very pleasent place.

Where was your 'horrible site in Robin Hoods Bay'? We stayed on a site there, which had good reviews on another forum, but we thought it was awful (and so did the Dutch motorhomers who arrived the same time as us, but drove off without actually staying the night).

I'm no teenager, but I'm still a bit addicted to internet (afterall, I'm doing this right now!) but all is not lost if your site does not have WIFI. We stayed at Bronderw CL at Llanwrst with no WIFI, but still got my fix, for free, at the local library a few minutes walk away. I'm sure the library in Betws could similarly supply when the cravings get too bad!

Betws Y Coed is well placed for outdoor activities which your children might enjoy. It's about 25 minutes to Llandudno Junction ( cinema complex) and Llandudno (bowling alley). You will get all this at at Chester and it's within walking distance of the site.

If the weather is with you B-Y-C will be fine, if it rains you have to be prepared to literally go with the flow !

As mentioned in another thread reply, more chance of rain here than on the coast.

The two parks mentioned by the A55 are right next to cycle tracks but they are also near the railway and dual carriageway too. Nice sea views though.

graeme, As far as the wifi is concerned you could always get a dongle, works out cheaper than CC wifi fees, I'm using our 3 dongle now writing this at Broadway CC site and have used it succesfully all over the country, a PAYG one cost about

Hiya,

We stayed on this lovely site last August. It has lovely facilities.

Fishing, walking, views ,trains, shops ,pubs with great food. But I don,t think there would be much for teens.

Jasper.how long timewiseo is 1GB of download ? Thanks.
Hi Rioja, sorry only just seen your comment

The 1gb will give you according to the 3 website a total of

10 hours of browsing

1000 emails

5 four min videos

32 four min music tracks

and it lasts for 30 days at which point you would need to top up again it does not roll over so any unued allownce is lost.

We have never used all the Gb allowence yet.

ps there is 1 for sale on the ukcs free ads if your interested.
