road lights wiring

Hi everybody I've problems with the road lights on a 2002 avondale avocet the indecators work ok when lights are off but with lights on no indecators but both front and rear running and stop lights flash at reduced strength . Have fitted new 7 pin plug and socket also car connected to another van all ok. Any ideas welcome

It sounds like a earth fault more so if the road lights are flashing......
I removed both of the rear light fittings on my van & used one of these kits to clean inside all of the bulb holders & also the tabs where the wires connect to the light fitting & I also replaced some of the spade conectors as they looked a bit coroded .....
All sorted for under a fiver

Hi David, I agree with the poor earth diagnosis.

You say that you've fitted a new plug and socket so they shouldn't be the problem. Check where the earth lead is attached to your tow car. It might be piggy backed behind one of the car's light clusters. If it's attached to a bolt I would suggest removing it and cleaning up the head and the bodywork it's passing through.

Also check where the earth lead attaches to the caravan light unit. You'll probably find it's a spade connector on the light unit chassis with the same lead being carried across to the other.

Hope you have some luck.
