Hi All, my roof fan has failed.....

The van is only 3 months old so is under warranty, so no problems there, except taking it back!!

All fuses OK, battery etc all OK.

Of course it worked perfectly a few days ago, any ideas would be appreciated.
 
Hi Chris.

Have you checked whether there is power reaching the fan Is this a 240v fan? (I take it that this is an Omni-vent?) It could be the switch although I doubt it. When ever faults like this occur, being a pest controller I always think about mice gnawing through cables etc. If power is reaching the unit but it doesn't work you can virtually say its the fan.If not- start looking for loose connections, evidence of rodents etc. I always leave mouse traps on my van when in storage. They can do a tremendous amount of damage in a very short time!! Just a thought.
 
Chris are you sure its not the fuse, nine times out of ten it is , when mine went the dealer uprated the fuse to 10amp as its a known problem especislly if you switch straight to blow while running in extract.

You need to start off at 1st speed and then move up to 2cnd speed and then third speed, you must stop the fan to change fro extract to blow.

I would give your dealer a ring and ask his advice.He should be able to talk you through various tests, mine certainly would.

Also if there is a known fault witha particular batch of omnivents, or with a particular model of caravan he should know.

Hi All, again.

Thanks for the advice.

Finally got round to taking it to bits. Motor faulty, even put 12volts from another source on the motor terminals and no go.

Still, looking on the bright side, it did last 3 months and during that time it was used 10 times for half an hour each time.
 
This is typical of the rubbish that we have to put up with. These fans are made from the cheapest plastic available, like something made in Hong kong 30 years ago, we had our wind up mechanism size with in months of buying the van new, plus it sound like a helicopter when it does work.

To compound all that, in our bailey the dam thing isn't even mounted over the oven or hob, but on the other side of the van!
 
I couldn't agree more, after working on the fan I decided to check out the toilet and when I pressed the buttons to open the outside door the top button fell to pieces, bloody springs and bits of plastic.... Why are we putting up with this rubbish and further more why are caravan makers fitting it.
