roof mounted satellite dishes

Hi, just wondered if there is anybody out there who has fitted a satellite dish to their roof of their caravan we have a swift conqueror and we are thinking of replacing the status directional ariel with a roof mounted dish - have you had any problems also is it easy to set up on site - many thanks

Janice I fitted a Maxview B2590 crank up on my Bailey senator 5 Louisiana no problem to fit on site I can set up in about 1 min

providing no trees blocking signal

I fitted the Maxview Semitronic which I modified with a twin LNB for Sky+

The Semitronic uses a pole which is attached to a cupboard/wall side inside the van

This takes all the strain off the roof

We have had it for almost 4 years on 2 vans and when we removed it from the Senator the hole was clean and perfectly dry

There is a blanking plate available

The Maxview instructions are excellent and include a template to mark out the position for the hole in the roof

I lashed out and bought a pro meter and have never regretted it

We had a Camos satellite dome fitted to a Sterling Jewel which has just been transferred to our new Senator California. Great bit of kit - takes about 2 minutes to lock on to the satellite when we arrive somewhere new, once it has locked on it doesn't use anymore power so battery drain (it operates on 12 volt) is minimal. We;ve used it in the Vosges area of France and in the Eiffel area of Germany plus very north of Scotland - good signal in all areas, we certainly wouldn't go back to any other system. We choose the Camos because of the good coverage, it isn't affected by winds (a friend has a conventional satellite dish fitted to the roof of his van - quote often has to lower it because of high winds, we live in N Scotland) and can easily be moved from one van or motorhome to another. Only small hole in the roof for the single wire connection. The dome sites on pads fixed to the roof.

We have had this system for 3 years now without any problems whatsoever.

When I looked at the Camos 4 years ago it wasn't possible to fit a twin LNB for Sky +

Do you know if that is still the situation

It saved me a lot of money at the time!!

You will need to contact the manufacturer of your caravan to ascertain whether the roof can take the additional load. Although ours is a 2004 model, it cannot take the weight of a dish.

The Maxview Semitronic's weight is taken on the pole /internal side so would be Ok on the roof

So far OK on Bailey Senator and Ace Award Nightstar
