Roof sky light

I have been looking at some caravans and most have the large clear roof sky lights fitted to look at the stars at night.
I was just thinking as I have only got the small sky lights come vent, I would like to change my ones for a clear.
Can't be that hard a job to do but can not find any.
Just a mad idea.

It's not difficult for a reasonably competent diy-er to change opaque rooflights for the clear Mini Heki type of the same size.(400mm x 400mm) Most caravan accessory shops sell them but check on prices which can vary. The mini heki rooflights let more natural light into your caravan and if you have an heki rooflight near to the sleeping area you would be able to see the night sky. The downside is that on summer mornings unless you drew the blind you could be woken very early with the daylight streaming in.

Cor blimey not cheep, will keep an eye open for one that is better priced.
I do think it would be worth changing the bedroom one.
Reg thanks

£70 is about par for the course I'm afraid Reg, I've seen them advertised at Towsure for £105.
I fitted one in place of an opaque rooflight on a Lunar Clubman that we once owned, the difference in the amount of natural light was quite noticeable.
If you ever get round to changing yours give me a shout and I'll send you some information on how I did mine.

Reg - even a woman can do it - it's an easy job really. The only difficult thing, I found, was getting off all the old sealant and making sure that the surfaces were completely clean ready to accept the new sealant.
I did ours as a 'birthday present' for my OH - who always complained how dark the bedroom was, in daylight! He had no idea, and I managed the whole job myself in a short afternoon. That included going to the dealership to buy the new Mini-Heki, getting tips on how to do it from the staff there, equipping myself with a sharpened wooden spatula, plenty of white spirit, and lots of clean cloths, plus the contents of my personal tool kit and a step-ladder.
Persuade Pat to do yours as a Christmas present!

Parksy! The sharp end will be heading in your direction when we meet - and I don't mean to turn your bacon over!
