I live next to Porthmadog and travel to Derbyshire at regular intervals.
From Stoke i would take the A500,A51,A534 to Wrexham.
Then down the A483 to Chirk.
Join A5 at Chirk. The A5 takes you all the way to Betws-Y-Coed.
An easy right turn in Betws to the site.
HOWEVER as you enter Betws you will pass a Shell Garage on your left, take your time and start to look immediatly for the right turn to the site. I say this because if you miss the turn, which is well signposted, you will travel some way to turn round.
I know the road from Stoke to Wrexham winds a bit in places but is quite alright to tow on.
The A5 from Chirk is a good and scenic road to tow on.
