Route in Germany

Lutz - can I have your advice please.

I will be travelling from Delft to Rudesheim in the summer. After Koblenz is it best to stay on the A61 and cross the Rhine on the ferry at Bingen? Should I expect queues at around 1200 on a Wednesday in mid-August? Or should I stay on the east side for a slower but picturesque and predictable journey?
