Route Suggestions

Hi, I am going to Anglesey N.Wales and would like your suggestions as to what you think is the best route. I am not towing caravan and can not get into property until mid afternoon. All the route planning sites state M5 to just south of Manchester then pick up M56 -A55, what are your thoughts, thanks in advance.

An alternative is to leave the M6 at Jct 16, use the A500 to Nantwich, A51 to Chester and pick up the A55 there - or for the scenic route leave the M6 at Jct 10A, use M54 to Shrewsbury, A5 to Bangor and pick up the A55 there.

Even with the caravan, or solo the A470 is my favourite route. Lovely countryside, plenty of places to stop for a break ( Builth Wells, Rhayader, Macynthleth, Dolgellau etc) , and a number of lay-by food wagons or cafes. We took it last year from Chippenham to our accommodation near Porthmadog. A nice drive.

Thats a bit like asking should I have fish and chips or a curry for dinner isnt it?

It all depends on what your preferences are really. Do want to get there as quickly as possible? If so then the motorways are probably your best option. If you are in no rush and want to enjoy the journey/scenery then take a more scenic route.

Where exactly are you starting out from as that is a somewhat relevant bit of information!
I think everyone is assuming you are travelling from somewhere in Somerset (because of your forum name) but we all know the dangers of assuming things!

Tomorrow we leave Wiltshire , pick up the M5 and will be following Roger’s historic route to Lake Bala.
The A5 from Roman times has been the main coaching route to Anglesey. Fairly straight, not hilly, and scenic. You may save a few minutes choking your way up,the NE Motorways. But you are on holiday😉

If in no hurry take the A5 route, it's stunning, particularly the stretch between Capel Curig and Banger.
