Hi

We are going to Longleat again this year. This time travelling from the North using M6, M5. Any recommendations for route from M5, prefer not towing through Bath.

Many thanks in advance

Annette

From the M5 join the M4 eastwards {London} direction. Leave at Junction 17 Chippenham A429 and follow the A429/A350 to Warminster bypass where the A362 SP frome takes you to Longleat entrance.

My advise is not to stay on the M5 south of Bristol and try to make your way across country e.g. A39 Glastonbury / Shepton Mallet, Frome as this will take much longer and the roads less caravan friendly.

Hi Annette, Ray has definately given you the best route if you are not familiar with the area. We live between Longleat and Bath and have the same dilemma everytime we set off north! At least being locals we know one slightly hair-raising route that we can manage through Bradford-on-Avon and then on bypassing Bath to the M4, but it would be hard to direct anyone through it. The Chippenham exit is very straightforward and the main HGV route! Have a good time!

Agree with Rays route.

We live in Bristol and go to lots of rallies in this general area, there are some routes that locals know but can be difficult to follow if you do not know the area.

Avoid any routes east from the M5 - the only one that is relatively easy is the A361 through Cheddar and Wells but Rays route is better, you will also avoid the holdups that regularly occur between Almondsbury and Clevedon junctions near Bristol.

Try to stick to the main roads and bypasses as signaled on roadsigns - our sat nav wants to take us through some of the towns and smaller roads in this area and that would not be good.

BTW The A46/A36 route does not go through Bath it just skims the outskirts but they always seem to have roadworks as it comes away from Bath and up the hill lately and I never like getting caught like this towing a caravan uphill.

Correction to last I was thinking of the A363 route through Bradford on Avon, stick to Rays route as Bradford on Avon is not that easy.

The A36 route would definitely take you through Bath.

Apologies
