Can anyone suggest a good route from Calais to Caorle near Venice. Traelling in August. Can you please also advise on example charges for tolls / tunnels etc. thank you.
Calais-Brussells-Luxembourg-stuttgard-Ulm- Austrian Border all motorway no tolls - Toll to go on Austrian motorway to the Brenner Pass- Autostrada (Tolls) down to Verona then to Venice
This is not the quickest but to date the cheapest route for me.
if you have weeks of time there a routes that bring out the best in scenery and culture.
I would agree with Shiraz. We have found this route to be the best for us. Through Switzerland can cause many delays with the St. Gotthard Tunnel. We have, however, seen some hold-ups on the Brenner motorways especially at weekends. To avoid this we are trying the motorway via Salzburg and down to Villach, to enter Italy near Udine. This will bring you to Caorle just as quick and only about 20 miles more.
We went the way Shiraz suggested 2 years ago, it was good, but last year we went Salzburg, Villach, Udine and it was better - the road wasn't as steep and there wasn't as much traffic. We going this way again this year.
