Rover 75

Hi Daniel,

I don`t know if you`ve already got the Rover or looking to purchase one, but we did have a poster on here quite a while back that had one but offloaded it PDQ as they are well known for having a woeful torque output/curve.

I gather the engine is very smooth but needs revving to make any progress, and just doesn``t appear to be up to towing a reasonable size van comfortably.

The engine has also a reputation for being fragile, there were many instances of the crank breaking when the vehicles were being driven from the end of the production line to the car park!

Sorry if its bad news, but I`d either steer clear or look to swap if you`re looking to tow a van.

Hi Daniel, We tow with a 51 plate Rover 75 2.0D BMW engine Pulls our Coachman Amara 420 no problem Bit slow setting off but once moving no problem. You should find it has a good nose weight. All so I,ve fitted spring assistors and it rides spot on .Very comfortable and for a big car economical. One thing to watch for is were the bonnet hinges are these seem to collect water. Just keep the rubber grometts clear of debri as these are the drain holes. Wayne

The Rover 75 2.0 uses the KV6 engine, derived from the K-series which is notorious for head gasket failures. Having seen the complete lack of space around the KV6, I'd expect that to be just as bad, if not worse.

Rover 75's are very cheap because the trade doesn't want to know them.

Just in case it`s not clear (as I didn`t bear specific reference to it) my previous comments were aimed only at the 2.0 V6 petrol engine.

That engine has no common components with the diesel mentioned by Wayne, which is an early BMW unit and a totally different kettle of fish.
