Run light of battery not mains

Hi,

I always thought a couple of lights in the caravan run of the battery and not the mains but I can`t seem to find them, we are going on holiday in the summer to cornwall from north wales and are planing to travel half way over night and stop at a service`s, so we would like to have some light. Any ideas why I can`t get them to work without plugging the caravan into the mains.

We have a 2008 sprite quattro ES.

Thanks for any advice

Pete :)

hi,

battery flat, check fuses and connections in fuse box,you dont say whether you have had the caravan plugged into the car at the time you tried the 12volt lighting,if you did, they wont work.

Hi thanks for getting back, no its not attached to the car when I`ve tried the lights, since having the caravan from new they have never worked, I wasn`t sure they were supposed too, I will check the fuses but from what I recall are they not just switch fuses (like the ones you have in fuse boxes at home) if so they were all on, or are there other fuses (blade fuses) I dont know about. Also the display which tells you the volts and whats running doesn`t work when only attached to the battery, not sure if its supposed to or not, or if its related to the light problem

Thanks for any advice

Pete :)

hi,

sounds like theres no battery connection somewhere, yes theres blade fuses, theres also a switch to switch 12 volt power on and off in most caravans, have a look in the fuse box(usually under the seating or in the wardrobe.i think its just a connection come lose by the sounds of it

The display which tells you the voltages etc, has a switch to turn the 12v system on, have you done so? I can't understand why you say you bought the van new, that you never took it back if something isn't working? I think you need to sit down with the user manual and read it and try and understand how the systems work.

Yes Peter you are correct there should be a cuople lights work off the battery.

Firstly check in you wardrobe and find isolation box where it should say CAR VAN. throw switch to van this now should only work from your battery.

Next where you have the indicator to show battery life is there a switch to the very left a small toggle switch

This has to be in the on position.

Also do you have a remote control for your van as you can turn the batery on and off with this as well.

Just a cuople of things there for you to check ,along with is your battery fully charged

Good Luck Sir Roger

Hi Peter

Assuming that your battery is fitted and holds sufficient charge check that the battery is switched on at the control panel and then try the lights.

I think it is more likely that most of the lights are 12v off the battery with a couple of mains lights. On my recent Sprite and Swift that is what they were anyway.

Hi everyone,

Thanks for all the advice, the caravan is in storage, so I wont be able to try the suggestions till I go there at the weekend.

Yeah your probably right, I need to read the manual. The lights not working from the battery hasn`t really bothered me till now, as I have had no need to use them.

I think its probably something I`m not doing rather than anything wrong with the caravan. The caravan went in for its first service in November 09, I guess if anything was wrong they would have picked it up, they did pickup on a problem with the fridge running on gas, which they sorted.

I will read the book tonight and try your suggestions over the weekend,

Thanks for all the advice

Pete :)

Peter , just to follow on from my first reply, with our Ace we have a black remote control if you have the same then look carefully at the remote and you will see two buttons one is marked with a light symbol and the other is an off symbol now as your van is from the same stable as ours you may find this is your answer .(switch operates 12 volt lights)

It took us quite a while to get used to it but now all is well.

Dont forget to check that battery is switched to VAN our fuse box etc is in a wardrobe .

Good luck and let us know how you get on

Sir Roger
