Hi all, we currently have a sorento, we are considering changing for a 3 litre 4x4, either a Land cruiser, Nissan patrol, Touareg.

What do you think the increase in running costs would be? do you think the fuel consumption of a 3 litre would be much more than the sorento?

Thank you for any replies.

Andrew & Sally.

Hi.....I run a 3.0d BMW X5 and I get better fuel consumption when towing than I did with my last car (VW Passat 1.9d) Even though with the VW we towed a much lighter van.

We now tug a t/a van and my towing mpg on a long run to Spain last year averaged 24mpg and I get around 31 mpg solo.

The Sorrento is an excellent tow car, some friends of ours have one, but they cannot match the fuel consumption I get. They tug a similar size van to ours but the Kia engine has to rev much higher to maintain the same speeds.

Hi Andrew...My X5 is a tiptronic auto box. I only ever use it on full auto mode when towing though.

My friends Kia has a manual box.

Hi we run a Jeep Grand Cherokee V6 3.0 CRD. Initially it had been our intention to get a Sorrento but the GC won. Fuel consumption is around 20 - 22mpg towing, 24 around town and solo on a run 30 - 32. These figures are very similair to those given by Sorento owners. Personally I would always where practical go for a 6cylinder diesel than a 4 cylinder model .

According to the manufacturer the the mpg should be slighly better with the Toyota and residules should also be better. However, its a large vehicle. The Nissan also get a good name but its said it is very agriculurel. The Toyota and the Nissan are both very large vehicles and finding somewhere to park in town isnt easy. The Sorento is smaller than both without being to small I looked at both but decided the Sorento was best for me.Good luck with your future purchase.

Hi Andrew & Sally

Our 05 Sorie does everything we want of it. The major influence on our choice was price. Unfortunately we do not have a bottomless pit of money.

My neighbour has a Toureg and very nice it is. Luxury but
