Rust Stains From Grab Handles

I have an Bailey Pageant Imperial 97, the grab handles have turned rusty, i have been able to replace the handles but i still have these unsightly rust stains down both front and back of my caravan.

Can anyone please suggest something i can try to rid of these marks

Hi Ray,

The rust stain is Iron Oxide, and that's insoluble in water and I don't think polish will help either.

Cillit Bang will dissolve the rust - and probably your caravan too - but something much weaker like Citric Acid (Lemon Juice) or Vinegar might just do the job - brush it on with an old toothbrush, brush for a minute or so, and then wash off with water.

If those don't work, then try Cillit Bang or Limescale remover - but only for a few seconds at a time - and wash off stright away.

Ray,

The only sure fire method of removing rust stains is to use an Oxalic Acid solution.

This is available from chemists or a good motor factor who also supplies paint products.

you buy it in powder form & dilute it to the strength shown on the packaging.

I've used it in the past to remove rust stains from fibre glass boats & their sails, also to remove rust stains from paintwork on cars.

Its not an agressive acid when diluted correctly & it will remove the rust stains completely.
