I'm thinking of changing my car and, as a long time Ford fan, have been deliberating between a Kuga and an S-Max. I freely admit to getting confused with the amount of technical data and, in fact, find both cars have pros & cons. Added to this, the differences between models (engine size etc) makes deciding even harder. Does anyone have any recommendations regarding these cars with regard to towing capability/efficiency? Any help would be much appreciated!

Both cars has good reputations in forum reports, but its horses for courses, without knowing the exact models you are looking at ie, engine size power and fuel, auto or manual, and their weights and towing limits And the caravan and its weights etc you are considering its difficult for anyone to offer any formative opinions or advice. More details please.

As the Prof says more information is needed to advise. I would start with the caravan for which we need the MTPLM. Once you have that you can work out what weight the car needs to be and get some idea of the engine size needed.
To be frank though once you have the weight and engine size sorted the choice between the two models is more down to which suits your lifestyle better as both are regarded as good tow cars. While you need a car up to your towing needs you spend a lot more time driving without the caravan, so this should be the determining factor once you have the weight and power sorted.
