Hi all, I'm in a tricky, (but fortunate) position of chosing my next company car and my dilemma is..... We want to change our van to a potential MTPML of approx 1600kgs and can't decide whether the Mondeo 140bhp TDCi Estate or the S-Max 140bhp TDCi would be the best. To add to our dilemma, the S-Max doesn't have all the toys like the Mondy does,so i'd prefer that but can't help thinking the S-Max would be the safer and more suitable towcar, can anyone advise please?? Thanks

According to PC magazine their Mondeo estate 2.5 217bhp is 1600kg kerbweight, so I guess your 140bhp could be lighter. Therefore you would be looking at over a 100% match. Not advisable.

Hi,

I cannot comment on the Mondeo but the S-max is heavier and MPV's are designed to be stable at high speeds carrying heavy loads and make very stable towcars (so is an estate car you could say but you still see plenty of estates with their tail on the ground when towing)

Hi

We towed aSenator Indiana mtplm of 1500kg with a 2lt tdci smax 56 reg and it towed it like a dream, we didnt know there was a van on the back. We have since bought a new galaxy and thats even better, Fords are brilliant towcars, the smax mpg was 27-30 towing and 50+ without towing so what more could you want? and they are heavy cars. Have you not considered the Galaxy as the ghia are fully loaded??
