Hello,

I am looking at buying a year 2000 Volvo v70 or a Saab 9.5 estate, both auto`s, they would have to be petrol as diesel models are too expensive.

As anyone had experience of towing with these cars.

My caravan is a 1999 Swift Challenger 520 se 4 berh weighing 1300

kg fully laden.

Either will pull 1300kg, and more. As petrol automatics they're going to be expensive at filling stations.

Don't ignore the Vectra-C Estate - it's bigger than either and you might get a diesel within your budget.

Gotta say that although on paper it's a good match, it never feels particularly 'stable' at anything approaching motorway speeds.

Prior to this van I had a 1992 Elddis Mistral XL (960 MTPLM) and towed it both with this Volvo and my previous car, a 2005 Chrysler PT Cruiser 2.4GT, and that too didn't feel a safe behind the Volvo as it did behind the PT...

I recently traded a Saab 9-5 Aero, towed brilliantly, but.....

several niggly electrical problems. 7 visits to my local Saab dealer, and still not fixed.

Plus side, 250 bhp, 250 ft lbs tourque @ 1900 rpm

22 mpg towing, up to 38 mpg on a run solo, but.... heavy depreceation when out of the Saab loop. It is a better drive than the Volvo, less tourque steer, but....

Thanks for all your answers, SAAB is not for me.
