During our holidays this year we have had fantastic weather hot and sunny. Can't complain at that! Because of the heat we had to have most of the van windows open, again not a problem, except that my husband (6'4" tall) walked into one by mistake when emptying the water container.

I found a useful cheap device which proved an asset. Buy some of those new-style body scrubs (the mesh shower type) and hang them from the window stays. The bright colours cannot be missed!!! They can also be used when showering, obviously!!!

Hope this is useful to other members of the forum.

There are so many tall people around these days so why do caravan manufacturers continue to build for the under 6'-ers? I am given to understand that people are growing taller now so, come on manufacturers, give us tall interior vans please.

Longer fixed beds would also be helpful, without the tapered end. The only fixed bed van we were comfortable in was the 26' twin axle end bedroom with island 'queen-size' bed! Alas we couldn't tow it legally so had to use it on a seasonal pitch.

Now returned to touring as once you've seen one wave you've seen the lot! Sorry, I've drifted off course again, apologies to everyone.

Do you remember the old fashioned glass shades around caravan gas lights? We rented a static many years ago which had seen better days. Some clever person had broken the glass shade and left it in the grass by the door. It had broken into dagger shaped pieces and, when my wife accidently trod on it, it went right through her foot. Fortunately the hospital was close by and she suffered no lasting damage but it still makes my flesh creep when I think of it. I think the lessons are obvious!

My husband is 6'5, he walks about with his head in the clouds and his eyes closed. He has a dreadful habit of walking about with nothing on his feet.

We were out in the caravan a couple of years ago, and with the weather being warm. took a panel out of the front of the awning, but, did not take the steel pegs out. Hubby of course walking about shoeless only went and caught his foot on the top of the rock peg. It made quite a mess of the sole of his foot, but who's fault was......you can guess.....MINE! I should have told him to wear shoes!!!!

Can't win can you!!!

Ann - beat this for an idiotic thing to do in the van. Did you know that Kagouls can cause eye injuries? No, nor did I until about 6 years ago. In a fit of pique, whilst clearing up the kids' debris in the van, I yanked at one of their kagouls. Unbeknownst to me, one of the elasticated toggles had got caught in between the lounge cushion and the side panel. Twang went the toggle, straight into my right eye. To say it was extremely painfull is an understatement as it caused the eye to bleed internally, resulting in a very boring week in Torbay hospital over Easter. Luckily no permanent damage to my sight, just a waste of a holiday.

Mike - Your kagoule toggle incident was rather like mine with the bungee straps on the Wastemaster used to secure the toilet cassette. Lifting the Wastemaster onto a slightly raised grey water disposal point something loosened a bungee which flew back, caught my glasses and sent them flying. Another fraction and it might have been my eye. Bungee straps now live in the gas locker!
