Salman Rushdie

What on earth are the powers that be thinking of in knighting Salman Rushdie.

Now I'm no lover of a faith that breeds bombers and are prepared to kill indiscriminately to achieve their aims and then continuously whine that it's only muslims that the police are targeting as terrorists but they surely have a point of complaint over this sorry episode.

What on earth has this man achieved? Am I missing a point somewhere, are there other well read or well known books he's written apart from the Satanic Verses?

This is even undermining the few friends we have in the muslim world.

This country, under this government and other PC agencies seem to be in self destruct mode especially after the Saudi affair which is another story in it's own right. Typical of the Frogs to cry foul whilst their country is prepared to sell arms to anyone, especially the Middle East.

Anyone any idea on why Rushdie is being knighted?

Don't get me wrong, I'm not for giving in to these extremists. If he had achieved something fair enough, reward him, whether it upset the muslims or not but as I see it he hasn't done anything beneficial to this country who adopted him. One thing is for sure, he has some clout with someone.

I've just looked online and Rushdie has written a few books, only one I have heard of, The Satanic Verses and apparently that was unreadable from the reviews I recall. That is probably why the likes of Mahmood Bashir in the Indu Kush couldn't understand it so thought it was in code attacking Allah.

To sum up, the only contribution Rushdie has made is a few pence in taxes from books that few read. The deficit must be enormous in the cost of police protection for him for 10 years and that looks like continuing for the forseeable future.
