Hi, we are traveling Plymouth to Santander, September this year. We need a site very close to the port where we can stop 1 night then leave our twin axle caravan for approximately 10 nights unoccupied whilst we drive down to Murcia and then return for 1 or 2 nights before moving towards Gijon. Any suggestions please?

If you are a member of one of the clubs contact their overseas touring department who should be used to handling such question and know off available pitches near the ferry ports.

Do you need to inform your insurer that the van will be left on a site unoccupied for 10 nights.. We did when we went from Cantobre to the Med for a few nights. The CMHC had no issue then.

I can't help you specifically regarding your question, but we have booked the Plymouth-Santander crossing on the 7th September and we'll be heading for Murcia, too, but towing the caravan. Plans are to stay the first night in Santander either at Camping Cabo Mayor or Camping Somo Parque.

Take a look at https://www.campingvirgendelmar.com/ It's six miles across town from the BF berth but it's well worth doing ten miles and driving via the motorway. It's a site which I've stayed at during the winter when I was travelling to southern Spain. The young woman that runs it speaks good English.
