I dont know the size of this dish, but my status is like most of the ones I see, fitted very close to the edge of the van. Yours may be different weaver But worth checking.

That's a very good point Colin

Looking out of the bedroom window the Status is about half the distance from the edge of the van as the Maxview Dish

On the Oklahoma it would not be possible to park the dish sideways as the Heki roof light is in the way and Maxview say that it should be parked in line with the van with the rear in the direction of travel

In this position the dish would stick out at the side

Following the excellent instructions its quite easy to fit the Semitronic using the supplied template

I can only see negative points to this.

1. I have doubts it will be any easier to adjust than a conventional dish.

2. Height of the dish makes no difference to the signal, in fact the dish will be more subject to the vans movement in winds.

3. In those winds a satellite dish will generate far more force into the roof than a status or similar, and this will also apply to transit speeds, it is like a small sail.

4. You will have to lose the option of using conventional aeriel.

I struggle to find any plus points apart possibly from it being out of reach of meddling hands and I have never found that to be a problem.

I would never have a dish on top of my caravan again. It isn't easy adjusting your caravan if you are under trees ( hard to avoid in France/Italy/Spain). I saw many a Motor van this year change pitches to enable to lock on to Astra2. I was not always lucky enough to get a pitch with a clear view of the satellite. Now I use a dish on a tripod and have never failed to lock on. Less than 10 minutes from sortig out the Sky box and TV inside the van to locking on the dish.JTS

try the Camos bowl.

We reckoned if it was OK with touring coaches it would do the caravan nicely - and it does :D

Get on Site - prod the button to get it seeking , and by the time the elecricity is connected it has locked on and we have TV - not time lost.

Hi JC

You are correct in some of your points

It does catch the wind and once in 2 years (200 days) it has been necessary to guy the dish

It is much easier to adjust because its already set up and connected to the TV and it remembers the angle of inclination and it can be fine tuned up and down by the touch of a button.

I use a pro meter and turn the dish from inside the van which is very nice when as happened a lot this summer it was raining!

The meter locks on to Astra 2 very easily

Only on one site in 2 years was I unable to use the dish and then I couldn't use my back up tripod as there was a big hill in the way (never needed the back up yet)

The aerial is in use and you just plug in the aerial lead in to the satellite box socket marked aerial

It is out of the reach of meddling hands but I haven't found that a problem either. But it is out of the way and there are no cables to connect on site or fall over and with a disabled wife this is no mean consideration.Broken ankle on one trip!

I considered the Camos but at the time it was not possible to use it with Sky plus as two lead ins are needed

I hope that this answers some of your misgivings JC and is not meant to be adversarial in any way

At the end of the day if you are happy with your set up then that's OK for you

I have to set up the van etc unaided due to my wife's disability and find anything that streamlines the operation a boon

The Maxview is certainly that for me but its not the be all and end all

Regards
