Help needed. At some sites it takes hours to get the sat dish set up, others have been instant. Can anyone recommend a really good sat finder that will do the trick. One I have gives lights and beeps but sometimes it is doing it all the time but not finding Astra 2. Don't want to spend a fortune but would like one that finds the satellite quickly and easily. What do others use??

Hi, with more and more satellites up there, the Astra Sats will become a little harder to get in touch with. The reason that your sat finder is makng noises and blinking lal the ime, is, I woudl expect, that you are getting signals from more than one satellite.
Using the maxview compass and finder is a very easy way to get the right signal quickly. We can set ours up, whether we are in Cornwall or Scotland, in less than 2 minutes!
remember that the signals are slightly different when you move around the UK.

I actually bought a satfinder, but I find it easier to use the onscreen (TV) finder on the satellite reciever, I access this through the menu.

What dish do you use?I started with a home dish on a homemade tripod,and always struggled because of the narrow angle of acceptance.Best was 3 minutes,worst was 35 minutes,air was blue.
At Pembrey I watched a bloke swap pitches and re-set his satellite
in seconds.He explained that his large 66cm Maxview on a Maxview tripod had more signal than mine and a larger angle of acceptance.
I grudgingly shelled out,and set it up at home on a level concrete plinth,which took a few minutes.
When I erected it next at Black Knowl I set it up on the compass,looked round and found I had got straight onto the satellite!.This is now my norm.

when I set up camp, I get my compass, find where the south is, point the dish to the south then adjust the elevation somewhere between 25 & 28, it usually works within a couple of minutes, I then fine tune it with the on screen signal strength meter.
