Am looking to replace our Garmin Street Pilot 3 has anyone got one that goes straight to destination using main roads as far as possible.Even with ours set on 'Lorry' ours still tries to go cross country and we have to check every journey with a map.Its good for showing roads coming up and positioning for islands etc its a lot of help but a bit uncertain in use.Any suggestion?

David, there is nothing at present that will do what you want!

All the Sat Nav offerings either let you set fastest or shortest route, with other minor additions such as avoid congestion charges etc, BUT they will all take you on possibly unsuitable roads at times.

Sat Nav is only meant as a driving aid, it will never replace common sense and observation, and checking its advised route is always worth the time and trouble so that you can put in any "avoid" roads.

David.

Do you really need to replace your Garmin SP3? Mine has took me to Spain, Germany and France as well as many UK destinations. I have a newer system but in spite of it looking like a housebrick I prefer the old Garmin.

We had two cars come up our drive today, both guided by sat nav. I can't understand how any one with half a brain could possibly follow instructions that are obviously going the wrong way.
