Each card is always validated to the individual box.
If you remove the card from home for use in a different box in the caravan you will have to ring sky from the caravan and go through the validation process. Same procedure applies when you return home.

We take the entire box with card away with us. A lot easier.

Sorry, wrong.
The card only needs to be paired with the box for premium channels - that is movies and sport. If it is a freesat card or carries only non-premium channels -Discovery, Gold, etc - then once activated it will work in any box. provided the users does nothing that makes it want to phone home whence it may object.
I suspect the problem here is that it is a HD card being plugged into a non-HD box. Simple solution is to get a Freesat card or failing that a cheap (non-Sky) Freesat box (about £40 at Argos.)

Not with the release of the new white card, even the £20 FreeSat cards are paired to a box.

Woody not entirely so.
In theory the freesat card should work but in practice it still needs validation. My mate also discovered that if the power to his caravan box and card is left off for any period he needs to revalidate. However the real odd thing was that the missing channel ITV turned out to be somewhere in the 900s not by BBC2 and Channel 4.
I think these quirks are peculiar to Sky boxes and again it depends which manufacturer made the box.

I can use my Sky HD card in my Sky+ box and although it won't get premium channels it will allow Sky+ features of pause record and playback and for some reason it will allow Eurosport to be viewed

And it works on ours,we put the old sky+ box in place od HD while we waited 3 days for sky engineers to come out for repair i.e.swap the box over.Although funnily the HD remotes wont work a sky+ box but the old remotes work HD
