I have an excellent Avtex 16" tv and usually in this country receive very good pictures through its freeview and my Lunar's fixed aerial. I also have a Sky+ HD box which I've just stopped using having cancelled my subscription to sky. My question is - what would I need to get to receive satellite channels in Northern France and Belgium?
Thanks for any suggestions.

You can still use the sky box to receive the free to air channels(with the white viewing card in).You would need a 60cm dish and lnb on a tripod.

If its a Sky+ box you will need a twin LNB and 2 coax lead ins
You will not be able to use the Sky+ record, pause.rewind without a Sky+ dedicated card and subscription but for some reason you can use the wrong card for the box and the Sky+ features will work I find
That is academic as I understand you have discontinued the subscription
You can pick up Sky boxes for £5 at car boots or maybe a Sky freeview box
You can receive a lot of channels without the Sky card including BBC 1,BBC2. ITV,Sky News etc

OK I've just tried it on our system which is HD box in one room and Sky plus box in another room with multi room subscription and Sport and Movies

If I remove the Sky+ card from the Sky+ box I can get BBC 1,BBC 2, ITV.Ch4 ( not CH 5) and Sky News that I have tried
IF I put the card from the HD box into the Sky+ box I can then get Ch5 as well
Also all Sky+ record etc facilities work on the Sky+ box with the wrong card and Eurosport works as well but not the Premium channelsl

Hope that helps

The Sky HD is difficult to set up unless you use a compass and a satellite finder. I use our normal Sky box to locate the signal by going intot he menu and selecting "set up". Can't do the same on the HD box.

I always use a sat finder meter but you can use the Sky+ signal strength and quality indicators by selecting:
SERVICES ---4 SYSTEM SET UP---6 SIGNAL TEST
The problem is that the bars react very slowly and so you can be on the signal without realising it and need to make very small movements of the dish and then wait between each movement
I can get the same bars up on the HD box

we bought a Freesat HD box off of Ebay, I think i paid £30 its been a lifesaver when we have been to a site where my status 315 wont pick anything up, must admit tho its tricky setting the dish up, i have found that if you get it set up the first time dont change the the elivation when you put it away, that way you should be able to just swing the dish around and find the picture, i must point out tho that if you are holidaying in scotland one week then cornwall the next week this does not apply as the elivation is different the further south/ north you go just remember to mouth the dish on a level surface. hope this helps.

Wrong, you would get the FTA channels without a card and add the FTV channels with a card.
