OK - as our roofmounted Satellite stuff has decided to die it is being replaced .

No not by a stick it up outside and faff about trying to set it up , having watched where the trees are and other such stuff.

We are looking at the Dome/up turned pudding bowl as its replacement.

Has anyone used one of these - or even been in a coach that has one parked on it's roof ?

Any comments ?

If you mean the self seeking type that big American motorhomes and event hospitality coach based vehicles use they work very well , but I doubt that they are suitable for most caravan rooves unless there is a purpose built smaller type.

Some of my clients use them, but they are normaly in very open settings and not blocked by trees. When a satelite is down for technical reasons or they get parked near to large buildings the dishes dance around trying to find the satellite so they then hire in dishes or run cables from someone elses feed!

I considered one of those last year but found that at that time it was not possible to use for Sky+ which saved me some money!!

I opted for the Maxview Semitronic which is mounted on a pole inside the van and the pole takes the stresses off the roof sheeting.

It works well

It is permanently wired up to the digi box and has a memory for the angle of inclination.

You then need a good sat finder and you turn the pole until the satellite is found.

I was able to fit a twin LNB so that Sky+ can be received

Well as our dish was a self seeking one [ motorised ] I don't think we need to worry too much about weight unless anyone knows anything different :)

Our van makers say we can have Aircon on the roof - and out last Satellite system was weighing less than that !!

Any more info anyone ?
