I am looking to start using a satelite system for the TV in our caravan due to the poor television signal in some digital areas. I have an old sky box which I wish to use, but I am unsure about wether i can use it and which other equipment I require and which is the best to purchase. I am not looking to spend a fortune on this and any advice would be gratefully appreciated.

A couple of things- size matters. Remember that you need to be able to see the satelite. This means no trees or buildings between you and the satelie. I have found that a 66cm dish gets a picture when smaller ones don't. (Through trees or where there are montains.) I think Maplins sell a dish that has a g clamp fixing.

I use a rotary clothes line! Remove the line itself and turn it upside down. Works a treat with a standard Sky dish and cost me about a tenner. I have a small piece which unscrews from the bottom, now the top and I clamp the dish to this bit.

I bought this piece of kit 9 years ago. Amazingly the price hasn't changed much.

Like Waffler I find the 66 cm dish easy to use.
My FIL did have an Aldi kit that for whatever reason was never very satisfactory and very difficult to set up.
I never use the sat finder, waste of space imo. SWMBO watches the screen and shouts out when we hit the correct transponder signal.
I now have a quad LNB and we take our sky+ box away. Never let us down yet. BTW move trhe dish very very slowly pausing frequently. A satellite signal is not like a TV signal and takes longer to lock on. Watch the angle of elevation too.
On mine Cornwall is about 26 dges whilst the Highlamds of Scotland are near zero degs!

Hi.
I went through various set ups before settling down with a domestic dish & a Tripod.
It works nicely & with the dish mounting modified with a screw adjustment & spirit level for eleivation its easy to adjust, I set up so i can see the TV through a window & level the dish for elevation then walk it into the signal from the east.

No problems ;-}
