Hi all we are looking for a site near to Glasgow, The OH mother lives in Glasgow so we want a site where she can catch a bus to visit us, We are looking for something with hook up a good dog walk and if possible within walking distance to the shops, as I like to relax the OH likes to get up early in the morning and walk the dog to the shops and get the morning papers,

We normally go to the C&CC site at Luss and like it very much but would like to try somewhere different her mum is 71 now so half hour radius of Glasgow is what we are looking for, your suggestions would be appreciated, We are members of both clubs so CL`s and CS`s are fine

My favourite park in the area is Lomond Woods in Balloch, lovely site and a level walk to the Lomond Shores Visitor Centre which has shops, cafes, restaurant, farmers market and French market on alternate weekends (I think) during the summer. It has buses or rail to Glasgow from the centre of Balloch which is about 10 mins walk from the site.

Here's a link

The CC have a CL at Bankell Farm, Milngavie (think I have that right and that it is still there), which is just on the north west side of the city. A shortish walk into the village, where there are buses and trains. There are also one or two buses that pass the site entrance.

Hi there,

Just wanted to make a couple of comments. We live very near to the CL at Milngavie....and the walk to the village from the CL will take at least 1/2 hour so I wouldn't call it convenient for the shops.Buses pass by the entrance of the CL but only run on an hourly basis....so essential to know the timetable.

There is really nothing in the Glasgow area unfortunately.

Hi and thanks for your help, recon it will be Loch Lomond again any further up and it will take granny for ever to get there on the bus. Thanks Rick

Hi Rick,

You could consider Craigie Gardens CC site in Ayr. There is an excellent express bus service from Buchanan Street bus station in Glasgow to Ayr. The bus station in Ayr is only 5 minutes away in the car. I think the bus takes about 45/50 minutes. The site itself is excellent, all hardstandings, within easy walking distance into Ayr for the main shops, also a local shop nearby if you want a walk for your paper, also excellent walks for the dog.

hope this may help.

William

Rick,

There is a good train service to Balloch ( for Lomond Woods ) or Helensburgh (for the site at Luss )from Glasgow that Mum could use and you could pick her up at the station.

Can you not visit her? Just a thought.

Maureen
