hi there, we are looking for a seasonal pitch for next year for my parents, they are looking at Cumbria eg: somewhere like Penrith or Keswick, Northumberland or North Yorkshire. Does not matter how basic the site is as long as it has Electric hook up and a toilet. eg: small farm site. They have the chance of aquiring a caravan from a member of the family, however do not wish to tow or travel far, hence reason for a seasonal pitch in these areas. it would also be too good an opportunity to let go. They do not have the money for a static caravan so please do not go down that route! The reason for thinking of a basic farm site is that a friend of theirs used to have one on a farm, of which was cheap but very basic and very quiet, this is not a problem as long as it has electric and possibly a toilet. caravan has a shower. Any comments or suggestions appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Also where are such sites advertised or do you have to wonder around the countryside looking, as I don't seem to be able to find many in any of my site books!

My parents are on a very limited budget and tend to only do one static holiday per year, we thought that this tourer from family, which they are able to buy quite cheap would be good as a weekend retreat aswell as a couple of holidays per year. if we can find a basic site or cheap site for a season. Many Thanks. or any other type of suggestions or ideas appreciated.

Andrew,

Just ignore jon`s post, there`s a bad one in every bunch.

Try and contact the Stoney Beck Inn IT`s on the A6 just north of Penrith, I`m sure I`ve seen vans on there site that looked as though they might be seasonal, good luck m8

Thanks Tony for your reply, i will look at that. As for Jon well I noticed that on the same nigt he made his silly comment at me he also left silly comments on other threads.... there is always one that try to spoil things.

As for statics as mentioned on my previous thread, my parents don't have much money so wouldn't be able to afford one with all there fee's etc, however this little tourer might just be the answer if we can get a nice, quiet cheap site. They only have a fiesta so cant tow, but also don't want to. I'll do that for them twice per year.

I know people think touring caravans is for touring, I tour myself with my caravan, but everyones needs and requirements are different.

Have you thought of 'park and store'. It would work out much cheaper for your parents and would only be 'sited' when they wished to use it. There is a lovely site in Northumberland, a bit pricey perhaps but the facilities are excellent. Have a look at the website: www.southmeadows.co.uk at Belford (just off the A1 - noise is not an issue) to see what is on offer. 15 Miles north of Alnwick/15 miles south of Berwick-upon-Tweed. 6 Miles inland from Bambrough. Lots to see and do - and the roads are very quiet.

Another thought, Andrew. Don't get sucked into going down the static route. We did that and soon regretted it - went back down the touring route very quickly. Going to the same area year in year out became a bore. I think a little touring van would suit your parents admirably. When they tire of that particular area you could move them on to another one of their choice. Good luck.

Thanks Ann for that, I will take a look at Southmeadows.

They live Near Newcastle upon Tyne, so Northumberland eg: Belford, or The Lakes and Cumbria, or North Yorkshire are all easily accessable within a drive of 1 to 2 hours.

I agree, one advantage of a seasonal pitch with a touring caravan being if after a year or so, you get bored of that area, you can look to move to another site and area ready for the next season, something that you could NOT do very easily with a static and not to mention the cost involved!!

try this place in north yorkshire www.otteringtonpark.com/

it's just about 2 miles outside of northallerton. we stayed a week last summer.... its a really quiet site but good facilities for toilets/ showers etc plus there is a small pond where you can fish (if you wanted). Don't know if there are vacancies for seasonal or not though.

hope this helps
