Senator Indiana series 6

After looking around at new Indiana's I've noticed a couple of small changes to, so called, 2008 models. First the toilet door handle is a domestic style lever type, like you would have at home, OR a push button, lockable type you would have on an overhead locker. Secondly there is a PIR alarm sensor in the lounge area, on the van with the domestic handle, but nothing in the other van. Which one is the 2008, newer model, surely they should all be the same???

Anybody else noticed or can explain?

Hi MikeyW,

Are you sure the other caravan was a Senator?

I don't know about the handle but Bailey have been fitting PIR alarm sensors in the lounge area for a number of years.

If the other caravan was a Senator then the dealer may have removed the PIR to replace a faulty one on another caravan.

2007 model push button type door lock on the shower/toilet door & the pir sensor was a optional dealer fit to the factory fitted alarm

2008 model domesti type door handle n shower/toilet door & pir sensor fitted as standard

Cheers for the replies.

Hamer, yes the vans were Senators.

GeorgeB, that sort of clears things up, knowing what the newer van should be like, but surely it seems a bit naughty for the dealers to advertise them both as 2008?

Thanks again

Hi Mikey,

Its entirely possible that they are both "2008" models but it depends on when they were built!

Take for instance my 2007 Series 5 Senator Indiana, built in Nov 2006, supplied in Nov 2006 but its a 2007 model?

It would appear that the one with no pir & push button lock was built in 2007, & the other one in 2008.

The only way to tell what model year it is, is to look at the vin number etched on the windows it should read something like this: SGBSF04BY7 followed by 7 numbers, the number after the BY denotes the model year. 7 = 2007 8 = 2008, BY denotes it was made by Bailey.

The dealer can legitamately sell them both as "new" if they've never been registered as sold, but if the vin numbers state one is a 2007 model & the other is a 2008 model & he's advertising them as both being 2008 models, then he's breaking the law under the trades description act, if however they both have 2008 vin numbers, although the spec is slightly different, he's quite within his rights to advertise them as 2008 models. This is because in Bailey's advertising literature it quite clearly states that they have the right to alter the specification without giving any notice.

Hope this clarifies the situation!

If you're after one & are prepared to take the earlier spec one, then its a good haggling point & should result in a substantial discount, after all it is a lower spec!

Hi George

Thanks for the very informative reply. I'll certainly be looking at that VIN number.

I am actually picking a new one up on Monday. It has the domestic style handle & PIR sensor and it should be a 2008 model. I happened to look in another one at a different dealer and noticed the changes then I started wondering why they were different as it too was advertised as 2008 but as you pointed out it could well have been.

Thanks again

Mikey,

You're welcome.

Welcome to the Indiana, hope you enjoy it a much as we do ours, we were a bit peeved when they anounced the series 6 so soon after we bought ours, but when we looked at it we decided that we liked the series 5 better.

The only mod we've done so far is to change the venetian blind from silver to wood effect, so that it matches the interior of the van (got it from the Pageant Burgundy) & we're now after a door fly screen as the series 5 didn't come with one & the series 6 one won't fit!

George

We only had our new Pageant s6 for 18 months when the s7 came out. The reason for the changed is for the fixed bed layout. We looked at the s7 Burgundy, which has a similar layout to the Indiana, but there was quite a few things we didn't like.

Regarding mods we were thinking of putting a towel ring next to the sink in the bedroom and a couple of coat hooks on the wall behind the loo, I think these were in one of the Pageants.

Regards

Mikey
