Gill,

This site has certainly been reviewed on here in the past but you're right about it not showing up on the search facility, strange!

We stayed there three years ago. Site entrance is located up a country road off the main road to Marennes. This area can apparently be very busy with traffic in the high season. We were there late June and early July and it wasn't too bad then. The site itself has a very impressive entrance drive with lots of colourful plants and bushes. The reception, shop, bar and restaurant are centred around the outbuildings of the chateau near the site entrance. Vehicular exit/entry is controlled by a barrier ( magnetic key type operation, deposit reqiured). No waste bins within the park you have to take all your rubbish to large waste bins outside park entrance.

Toilets/showers kept clean apart from the bird droppings, the shower blocks are partly open roofed which allows the swallows in, depending on when you go you will find they love to nest within the shower and toilet blocks and raise their young. Looks very cute until you step out your shower and find they have been using your towel as a toilet!

Bar and restaurant good, clean ( no birds there!), area outside of bar where some entertainment is held. Fairly varied programme of different types of live music when we were there.

Shop is typical site shop, sells the basics. Supermarket in nearby Marennes about 5 minutes drive away.

Static vans and chalets on site. Main touring van area seeems to be on the left as you enter the park, we were pitched up to the right amongst the statics and chalets. Pitches were fairly large and level, water points were few and far between in the area we were.

Large swimming pool complex with,if my memory serves me right, three different pools. When we were there nobody was using the larger pools because the water was very cold, this despite air temperature being up in the thirties. Looked nice though.

Seemed to have a good Kid's Club, our grandson was with us and went most days.

Overall the site was good, my only concern would be that although we were there in low to mid season when a lot of the statics and chalets were empty the bar/ restaurant was quite busy and I'm not sure how it would cope in high season. My grandson was disappointed with the pool temperature as were a lot of others.

Would we go back? probably yes, but not in high season.

Robert

I and others have commented on this site and it is a case of each to their own.Personally I found it to be one of the worst sites I have been to,they charge a deposit for the barrier which was never shut, you have to go down the lane to dispose of your rubbish, there were only three taps only one of which was with the tourer area the reception told me to use the fire hose!

Birds do indeed mess up the toilet block, there was an irrigation system on all the pitches which was switched on every day and flooded the pitch and finally they have a serious ant problem.Other than that it was fine.

We stayed here for 15 nights in august this year and generally had a good time. The pitches were large and level and seperated by tall hedges which was nice but almost too private as you hardly saw anyone apart from walking quickly by your pitch.

There is no deposit for the barrier now, instead they give you a pass code. The pool complex is fantastic although the water was freezing, this didnt seem to efect our 4 year old daughter who loved it. Dont rely on getting a sunbed though, there was no way near enough to go round, and be aware that its strictly swimming trunks for the guys and no swim shorts. The area was ok but not to much to do when the sun does'nt shine and we had our fair share of iffy days. There was entertainment monday to friday evenings usually ending with a disco, but only if the weather is suitable as its all outside.

Generally it was a good site but we wont be rushing back. Next year we are heading further south. If you do go be sure to book the Grand Comfort pitch with electric, water and drainage connection, well worth the small extra charge.

Large site. Quite good, but a couple of problems....

Number one problem is the mossies - they are evil. The site is surrounded by trees and crop fields. Many people ended up with really nasty bites.

Entertainment non existent or poor. Maybe not such a bad thing.

Crowded in high season. Pool busy.

Would avoid, personally.

hi,

we were there in august for 14 nights and apart from the weather we had a great time.it is now code entry and the bins are in the corner of the site.the restaurant was excellent and we always got a table before 8.00.didn`t suffer many midges but the swallows were a bit annoying (nests are protected). We were in the middle of the site with huge pitches but had to speak to people to find taps etc.We would definitely go back.

We stayed at this site last Whitsun. We had a few other sites in mind just in case this was a bit too busy (it is advertised in the Castels brochure as a Club Site). We were pleasantly surprised. It was half empty. The pitches were all of good size (140 sq m) and the pool complex was excellent. We would suggest the pitches are better at the far side of the pool complex and this is well away from the restaurant, bars etc.
