Could some one tell me if a new van has a service from the very first year and yearly thereafter or is there a grace period of say 3 years like on a car?
Many thanks

A new van should initially have a PDI, then be serviced every year within 6 weeks either side of its original sale date with the last warranty service BEFORE the final date, ie there is NO extension allowed on the final service.
There is NO grace period regarding services, miss one and the warranty is void.

Have a look in your service book and the exact weeks should be detailed for each year. The time slot is fairly generous but it's essential you have it done at the correct time. I'm glad I always have or else she wouldn't be off to the factory next month to have her new front end on.

There is no period of grace on cars. The warranty service intervals are specified by the manufacturer and a breach will invalidate the warranty just the same as caravans. Three years is simply the date it needs its first MOT. I would not want to leave either the car or caravan three years without it being serviced.
