I am tugging the caravan down to the dealership for its first service on Monday which is a bit of a bind as it is a few miles away but for their warranty they insist that they do the first one. Anyway as part of my insurance they require an annual service and for the warranty I need to get the van serviced. My question is, is there usually a service history booklet issued with the caravan or do you just keep the receipts; I don’t actually have a service history booklet but that shouldn’t be too difficult to get as the first service is at the dealer that sold me the caravan from new? Secondly is there a qualification that the person must have in order to conduct the service in order to satisfy the insurance and warranty requirements?

In order to satisfy warranty T&Cs caravan servicing should be carried out by an approved service engineer.
You should have a service booklet which needs to be stamped by the service engineer as evidence of regular on schedule servicing, this is vital to preserve your warranty! The service book is usually placed inside a folder and would be in the front chest of draws or given to you at the handover by the dealer along with your bill of sale, CRiS documents etc; If you have not been given these documents you should insist on receiving them from the supplying dealership

Prior to purchase I checked with my local dealer (who is an Approved Workshop, but not a Lunar dealer) if they could take on all support of the new van, which they did. The local dealer has now conducted all 4 annual services (each time stamping up the Service Handbook), plus several items of warranty work including a new front panel recently. Hello. Regarding a fully stamped service booklet.
I couple of years ago I approached my original supplying dealer regarding an issue with a cracked wheel arch cover. The van still being under a six year warranty.
The dealer said that they would approach the manufacturer on my behalf.
A day or two later the dealer contacted me asking for copies of all the service sheets and a copy of the service book showing all the entries.
(I had been using a local approved mobile service engineer for the servicing, before setting up the first service I actually contacted the manufacturer to confirm this agent was approved by them)
Again a few days after sending the details I was again contacted by the dealer who asked me to again send the copy of the service book details because one of the dates wasn't clear and the manufacturers were questioning it. I resent a better copy which they were happy with.
So regarding the service book it does appear that manufacturers treat it very seriously. Also bear in mind that I had sent copies of all the corresponding engineer report sheets as well, all clearly dated.
So as Parksy says in his post the best advice would be to make sure you get the service book from the dealer or at least an approved duplicate if the original is lost.
My story doesn't actually end well for me because the outcome was that the actual wheel arch covers (Spats I think they are called) are not actually covered by the guarantee. 🙁 a fact I'm sure they could have stated without actually seeing the second email of the service book)

Some makers state that warranty is maintained if the annual service is done by av Approved Workshop, mobile or static. But usually warrenty work has to be done at the dealer.
May be worth emailing the maker with this as a question and having confirmation in writing.
This arrangement may also be available from European makers with limited representation in UK. I certainly had it from Burstner.

Thank you all for your replies. Took the c-van to the dealers yeasterday, it’s just over 50 miles away. I asked about the service book but the maintenance manager stated that for Adrias they registered the service with them on line. I have the full report and invoice from the company though. I suppose, like with car MOTs and services these days, it is all on line. As far as I am aware it was only the first year that I had to return to the dealer for the service because they offer two years dealers warranty and can demand that they get the business for the first service as part of that.
the van is warrantied against damp for 10 years by the manufacturer and two years by the dealer for all other stuff as far as I can remember but i would have to check. Nut that is above the statuary rights obviously.

I purchased my Astella from Roundstone Caravans in Horsham West Sussex, but have my servicing carried out in Bristol, close to where I live.
As you are now aware, Adria keep their servicing records online and do not issue a service booklet.
I have had my van for four years now and I am very pleased with it, as I hope you are with yours.

thank you muchly for that information Lappy. Next year I will be looking to one of the many local caravan workshops and mobile service providers but making sure that they are approved and that they can do Adria and book it all in on line to their webpage. Apart form having to take a day off work and shell out for the cost of the dealer carrying out the service (which as far as I can tell involves a check off list and whacking some grease into the bearings) there was nearly 200 miles of fuel to pay for 100 of which was tugging the van too and from the dealership.
Not sure what make you have but all NCC approved caravans can be serviced by any NCC approved workshop. Lunar do give you a service book to have completed but not sure about the others.
You might also find some incentive to use an agent. Swift Guarantee their agents work but not any by anyone else.
As for insurance I am afraid you need to read the policy. The CC policy requires the caravan to be serviced by a competent person, but that is open to interpretation, if you take replacement as new cover.

Cheers Ray, we have an Adria and our insurance is by CC so I am aware of the requirement to have the c-van serviced by a competent person. I have got the paper work so I am happy that I can prove that I have had it serviced.
