setthorns forestry commission site new forest

We go to Setthorns at least twice a year, it is a lovely quiet site with direct forest access, plenty of walks from the caravan door. The pitches are nestled in the forest itself, hardstanding pitches but remember there is no toilet block there & you need your own, fresh water, chemical disposal & rubbish disposal are catered for. There are a some electric hook ups but most of the site is non electric, the site is divided into areas so you can take you choice on where you pitch. The select area (High Trees) is all electric & has a picnic bench on each pitch. The remainder of the electric pitches are spread around the other areas. We always try to stay on the select area but once when that was fully booked we had a premium pitch at Oaken Bottom & would quite happily pitch there again if we were unable to get a select pitch. If you are lucky & we often are you will see deer wandering through the site & ponies of course, rabbits & sometimes foxes plus lots & lots of birds & squirrels which are attracted to the feeders that most of the caravanners put up for them. Unless you are going at a bank holiday or during the school holidays weekdays are very quiet with an influx of "weekenders" from Friday afternoons.
