Setting up a Satellite

Help!
Bought a caravan with a Maxview Dish on the roof. I have used satellite dishes before but I cannot get this to work.Set up to Astra 2 and a TV which works on the satellite at home. Used a sat finder and get 80% signal and 70% quality but no picture! Is this a transponder ( whatever they are) problem?)
Tens of transponders listed and I have no idea whiuch one I should use.
Any help gratefully received.

Whilst you get the readings stated that does not mean you are on the correct Astra2 E, F or G satellites.
On your TV screen the Network ID should be 0002 and the Transport Stream 07D4 or very similar.

Astra 2 is a cluster of satellites at 28.2E and even though they are up to 100 miles apart from each other they all fall within the reception beamwidth of your satellite dish so there is no need to wonder about which satellite you are using - it can/could be any of them.

The fact that you have set up your TV but cannot get a signal suggests that you are on the wrong satellite. Astra 1 at 19E which covers most of Europe is a significantly stronger signal in most places than Astra 2 so it is quite easy to trip over it. You might have adjusted the set to Astra 2 but it will show the signal strength of any satellite it finds - but it will not decode the signal until it is one that it recognises and/or is happy to use.

If you have found Astra1 - looking from behind - your dish needs to go slightly left and slightly down to find Astra2.

After advice from my friend Sproket I bought a Primesat SF-700 which is the updated model from the 600 that he has.Checked it in garden and got a great picture in 20 seconds.Am hoping its as good in France.I know its £120 but its instant response and dedicated satellite search is great
