Hi as a newbie I need everything to set up has anyone out there any ideas as to where shop for things like dishes plates etc. I understand that there are proper Caravan assc. shops but are there other shops that may be a tad cheaper.

Hi Trisha,

Just buy most of your things at the usual places, like Tesco, Argos etc.

Cheap ordinary plates and dishes are much more preferable to plastic or melamine, which discolour easily.

Apart from things like Aquarolls and wastemasters, or the waterhog equivalents, dont go buying in caravan accessory shops, unless you like throwing money away!!!

Same goes for most electrical items, like TV's,the cheap Tesco versions will work just as well on 240v in a caravan as the mega expensive "caravan" TV's

Hi Trisha

I share your sentiments about plastic glasses, but this is good example of the decision you will be faced with for everything you buy for your caravan i.e the issue of weight. As time goes by you start to accumulate all kinds of 'useful' items, until one day you stick a pile of stuff in a box on the bathroom scales and are shocked at quite how much everyday objects add up. So, enjoy kitting out your van-but keep the weights in mind as well as cost....
